Please Welcome Deborah Garland

Go Behind the Scenes For Love by Deborah Garland

Thanks for having me, Jennifer and letting me tell your readers about my new novel, “Must Love Fashion” which was released by Roane Publishing on August 7th.
Taking a peek behind the curtain has been a common theme for me. My first novel “Forty Times Platinum” brought readers into the back offices of a music label. In my latest novel, “Must Love Fashion” releasing this month, we go behind the scenes of a fashion giant.
But it wasn’t supposed to be that way.
In an earlier version of the novel, Andrew worked in the fashion industry, but Gwen was a textile designer. It gave them a common thread (no pun). But the setting of the original novel was different. When that novel crashed and burned, or should I say drowned (inside joke), I’d decided Andrew’s job was more interesting and made this a workplace romance.
And the new title “Must Love Fashion” was born.
The first thing I had to imagine was the office layout, since so much of the story takes place there. One of the early conflicts is that Gwen and Andrew must share an office until a space opens up for Gwen. (Forced Proximity) While writing and choreographing where they were standing during heated conversations and then eventually the good heat that comes between them, I imagined my old boss’ office.
I can still see it in my head; where Gwen’s temporary desk would be with the large window on the far wall. While that real window looked out onto a boring suburban parking lot, Gwen gets to stare out onto the Manhattan skyline and even has a glimpse of the Hudson River.
“Must Love Fashion” is a quick paced novel as the clock is ticking down to a Fashion Show that Gwen and Andrew must work on together. I relied upon many years of watching Project Runway season finales to bring to life the chaos that happens behind the runway. And it’s after the show that Gwen and Andrew’s love story begins.
In a short amount of time, readers are whisked through Milan, Los Angeles, Manhattan and settle into the fictional North Fork town on Long Island called Darling Cove (Gwen’s home town). The next book in the Darling Cove series, “Must Have Faith” will be anchored more in the small wine hamlet where Gwen’s brother, Greg Mallory, a village police officer must face his runaway bride, Faith Copeland who’s moved back home.  Check out my website for updates on Must Have Faith’s release which should be sometime next year. http://www.deborahgarlandauthor.com/blog/2017/03/22/must-have-faith/

For now, please enjoy a sneak peek of some of “Must Love Fashion”:

Blurb:
Gwendolyn Mallory has landed her dream job. After years at a small fashion retailer, she’s been given a chance to show off her public relations skills for a major brand. What woman wouldn’t be excited to work for Prada in New York City?
Former male model turned Prada Brand Manager, Andrew Morgan is ready to move on with his life—his wife passed away from cancer fifteen months ago. Even though he and Gwen share an initial fiery spark, getting involved with a co-worker has always been on Andrew’s to-don’t list.
With a fashion show in L.A. a month away, Andrew and Gwen find a way to work together. And with the help of some good old-fashioned jealousy, she brings to life a sexy devil…who just happens to wear Prada.
Excerpt:
“Sometimes you don’t realize what a hole you have in your life until someone fills it.”
Annoyed, Gwen roughly draped her scarf around her neck and put on her coat. But those frayed edges once again caught on one of her charm bracelets. “Son of a…” Her free hand reached up to loosen the scarf from her neck before it strangled her. But it snagged on the clasp of her necklace and twisted; trapping her as if she were in a straitjacket. “Are you kidding me?” she growled.
Furiously, she shrugged out of the coat, sending it flying across the office.
“Excuse me.” A deep gravelly voice drifted in from the doorway.
Gwen swung around and locked eyes with the most devastatingly handsome man she’d ever seen. Andrew! “Oh hi!” She held up her hand revealing the tangled mess she’d made of herself.
“Looks like you’ve gotten yourself tied up there.” Andrew put down his bag and moved toward her with powerful long legs covered in what she knew had to be a pair of Prada dress slacks. In an instant, he was touching her hand and…her neck. “What’s caught on what here?”
“I can do it.” She backed away. It was startling to be so close to him. That photo did not do this man justice. He was even more stunning in person. He was so tall and broad. Heat radiated from his body; removing the chill that clung to her all week from the drafty window.
“I think you’ve done enough.” Andrew snagged her wrist again. His commanding hold made her feel like Lois Lane when Superman rose up, caught her and said, I’ve got you.
