Release Day!

It’s book release day! That’s right, my fourteenth book is out today. I can’t believe I’ve published 14 books, with several more on the way. Crazy. Here’s the link if you’re interested: Universal Link: https://books2read.com/u/3k2G5n

This release day I’m celebrating a little differently, with two live events.

The first happened this morning via Facebook Live. I’m attending a big reader’s event in the fall, and one of the women offered to interview author attendees. We coordinated it around today’s release, and I had so much fun talking to her. As she described it, it was like sitting down for a cup of coffee and chatting. We talked about my writing process, my reading preferences, and my book. And I’ve gained a new reader, since she tried A Heart Restrained, loved it, and now wants to read the rest of the series. Yay! I answered watchers’ questions and really had so much fun.

The second will happen tonight. I’m going into Manhattan to a place called P&T Knitwear, which is a gift store, bookstore, podcast recording studio and more. I, along with several other authors, will read excerpts from our books, discuss our writing, and sign books for readers. I’ve never done something like this before, and I’m excited to be a part of it. If you’re in the area this evening, stop by!

Usually, I focus more on social media events, which I’m still doing. I’ve got blogs and reviews tours and social media posts. But I’m trying to reach readers who might not be on social media. We’ll see what happens.

This book was a lot of fun to write, but more difficult than my usual ones. The hero doesn’t show his emotions. And that makes it very hard for me, as the author, to show you, the reader, what he’s feeling. Because I don’t want to say, “he was angry.” I want you to see it. But if I can’t show you his anger, I have to find other methods. So, it was a struggle. But I hope I did it well. Fiona, who does show her emotions, was fun to write. I’m a big fan of strong, independent women, and she is definitely strong and independent. Sassy, too.

I hope you’ll consider reading the book, and if you do, I hope you’ll leave a review. Short, long, good, bad, all the reviews help by making my books more visible. Thanks for coming along on the journey with me!

Cake For Breakfast

My girls were always picky eaters—still are, to some extent, although they’ve gotten better. I’ve never been a big breakfast person. Breakfast buffets are wasted on me, growing up, I preferred tuna salad or an Eggo waffle (not together), and now I like a half of a muffin or bagel.

So Passover is a challenge, especially when the girls were little. They always liked specific food, and while I could experiment with something new once in a while, experimenting during Passover wasn’t ideal, since the fallback couldn’t be pizza. Lunches were met with groans, and they ended up eating a lot of peanut butter on matzah and complaining all day how hungry they were.

Therefore, I tried to make breakfast fun.

“How about cake for breakfast?”

The first time I asked them that, their eyes grew huge, probably picturing birthday cakes and frosting, all while wondering who the person was who was impersonating their mom, and how could they keep her?

There aren’t a lot of options for Passover breakfasts that don’t taste gross. Actually, I’m of the opinion that most prepared Passover food in general tastes gross, but that’s beside the point. If you shop early enough for Passover food, you can snag boxes of Passover “cake mix.” The earlier you go, the more varieties they have—vanilla, chocolate, marble, coffee.

Here’s a secret, they all pretty much taste the same. And they certainly don’t taste like the kind of cake my kids were picturing. However, for breakfast? Knowing that it’s “cake” adds a level of forbidden fruit to the idea, and even though I draw the line at frosting, all my kids’ complaints about Passover food disappeared once I made them cake and gave it to them first thing in the morning.

It soon became a tradition—for them, it gave them food to look forward to, since the rest of the year certainly did not allow for cake for breakfast. And for me, it was easy and staved off the complaints until later in the day.

I have another reason to have cake for breakfast today. Not only is it Passover, but my latest book is out today! A Reckless Heart is the first in my steamy contemporary Scarred Hearts Series. Reviews are coming in and they are making my heart happy. I’d love for you to consider adding a new book of mine to your e-reader or bookshelf!

Blurb: Meg Thurgood, former society girl, took the blame for her friend and paid a steep price. Now all she wants is solitude and a chance to rebuild her life. She thinks she's found that in an isolated house she rents from a mysterious stranger.

Simon McAlter has hidden in his house on the coast of Maine since a fire left him scarred. A successful landscape architect who conducts his business and teaches his classes remotely, he's lost his inspiration and is trying to pretend he's not lonely.

Simon's new neighbor is more than he bargained for. When he learns Meg's secret, will he retreat into the shadows or will he learn to see past the surface and trust in Meg's love?

New Book Release

Hey everybody, my book comes out TOMORROW!

Learning to Love is the third book in my Serendipity Series, but each book stands alone, meaning they can be read and followed in any order (in fact, book 2 was actually supposed to be book 1, originally, but that’s another story).

If you or anyone you know likes romance, or if you like really smart, quirky females, males who learn they have a soul, witty banter and a happily-ever-after ending, then this book is for you.

To celebrate the release, I’m hosting a Facebook party on my author page tomorrow. Simply pop on by to https://www.facebook.com/Jennifer-Wilck-201342863240160/?eid=ARC2XAN3EEW9f_EX-KEieB7UxOOpV5SSAn3mC-wCKaZ1RBNrit_M2x0Mh4eJYZS3RHei4sNJRMnv-FXt and scroll through the page. I’ll be posting information about my book and other authors will also be there posting about their books. Who know, you might discover your next favorite author. We’ll all be offering giveaways and there is a grand prize drawing of eight or nine e-books that you could win.

It will be fun. At least pop over and say hi.

That’s all for now. I have a lot left to do to get ready for the book launch tomorrow. Thanks for your interest!

Book Release!

It’s almost here…Five Minutes to Love releases on Wednesday. Book releases are always exciting, whether they’re my first book or my seventh, as this is. Writing and editing are hard work, and to see it all come to fruition is satisfying.

My favorite part of working on this particular book was the research I had to do into speed dating. Since my husband and I met in college, I never participated in anything like that, but I wanted my hero and heroine to meet that way—actually, I wanted them to fail, but you’ll have to read it to see what happens. So, I needed to do research.

I did as much research into speed dating as I could on the internet, short of signing myself up for an event—as supportive as my husband is, even he has his limits. Then I contacted some single friends to find out if any of them had ever gone to an event. Although the ones I contacted hadn’t, she had friends who had. And she provided me with fantastic “horror stories” that I was able to use. But there was still something missing.

One day, my husband, daughter and I met a friend in the city. After hanging out for the afternoon, we went out to dinner and guess what? There was an event going on in their party room. So, my daughter and I spied on it, which enabled me to learn exactly how the events take place.

So what happens to my characters? You’ll have to find out!

The Dry Spell Is Over!!

It’s been three years since I last published a book (Miriam’sSurrender). Yes, I’ve republished both A Heart of Little Faith and Skin Deep during that time, but nothing new. It hasn’t been for lack of trying. I’ve been writing non-stop. I signed with an agent, which was a wonderful experience, but didn’t work well for either of us. And I was about to give up on writing.
There were things going on in my life that were pulling me in different directions and were making me miserable. When you’re miserable, it’s really hard to write romance. Sure, the black moments come easy, but the happy ones are tough.  And so I’d look around at all my author friends who were moving in the right direction and I really thought it was time to give up.
But I didn’t. After much soul-searching, I made changes in my life and decided to give writing one last shot. I freed up my time, finished the stories I was writing, polished the ones I’d already finished and made a plan.
The plan was imperfect. In fact, my getting published right now is kind of amazing, but that’s a story for another blog post. Suffice it to say that despite everything I did to work against myself, I found a publisher for a story that I can’t wait to reveal to everyone.
It’s the first in a projected three-book series. The characters are Jewish, but the story doesn’t revolve around any holidays. They happen to be Jewish, like I happen to have brown hair (shh, no comments about the grey). There’s a little religion and culture thrown in, but that’s all. The publisher is one I’ve been eyeing for a while—they have a fantastic reputation, put out great books and treat their authors well. Throughout the entire submission process, they kept me updated and they’ve answered every question I’ve asked. I signed the contract on my birthday and I’m looking forward to starting to work with them.
In the meantime, I’m continuing to edit my existing manuscripts and beginning to prepare for the marketing side of this business. I’ll be keeping my readers updated on my website (http://www.jenniferwilck.com) and on my Facebook author page (https://www.facebook.com/Jennifer-Wilck-201342863240160/), so be sure to pop over there regularly. If you want advanced notice of things, like preview chapters, exclusive contests to win copies of the book, etc., you might want to sign up for my newsletter (http://jenniferwilck.com/contact.html#newsletter). And if you want even more exclusive info and get to help me promote myself, you can join my street team (https://www.facebook.com/groups/749451931834130/).
The moral of this story is don’t give up. And I’m really glad I didn’t.
