I'm A Finalist!

I received some exciting book news over the weekend: In the Moment is one of five finalists in the Published Mid-Length Novel category of the Stiletto Contest, sponsored by the Contemporary Romance Writers, an online specialty chapter of the Romance Writers of America.

I never do well in contests. Ever. So I was incredibly surprised to find out that I am a finalist. I was also surprised that of the three books I entered, In the Moment was the one they liked. It happens to be my favorite book, but it gets my worst reviews. Whatever, reading is subjective, you can’t please everyone and at least one person liked it enough to make it a finalist, so whomever you are, thank you!

The other finalists in the contest—both in my category and in others—are an incredible group of writers. I know several of them and am honored to be in their company. I don’t expect to win, and for me, being a finalist is enough, so I’m pretty happy. The winners will be announced at an awards show toward the end of July in Denver at the RWA conference. I won’t be in attendance, but I’ll be paying attention and cheering my fellow author friends on.

The End of Summer

This is a big week for me.

It’s the first week without The Princess and I’m adjusting to being a family of three (actually, since Banana Girl is at band camp, I’m not sure the adjustment has begun). I’m trying not to text my requests and nags too much, and I’m trying to let her initiate the contact, even though I really, really, really want to know what’s going on. Walking by her room is jarring—not only is she not in it, but it’s CLEAN! Between the emptying and organizing I made her do before she left, and the vacuuming and dusting the cleaning ladies did as soon as she left, it doesn’t look like her room. I almost miss the One Direction cardboard cutout.

Someone left this on the road in front of my house. Every time I see it, I wonder where the kid is, kind of like every time I walk by her room, I wonder where The Princess is. Sigh.

I have a book releasing on Friday. In the Moment is a standalone (not part of a series) and I can’t wait for people to read it! It’s not my first book release, but it’s just as exciting as if it were. I’ll be on social media all day promoting and celebrating, so stop by and visit me.

And, I just signed a contract for the second book in my Serendipity series (Addicted to Love was the first book)! I filled out the manuscript information form, which goes to my editor and lets her know to begin her first round of edits on the manuscript. That means I should be getting her edits in about a week. I also filled out the cover art form with my vision for the cover. I’m hoping it will closely resemble Addicted to Love, since it’s a series and I’d like all the books in the series to look cohesive. Based on the timing, I anticipate the new book, Five Minutes to Love, to release in the late winter/early spring (barring unforeseen circumstances).

Time For Another One

A couple of years ago, when I was busy with other areas of my life, I had very little time to devote to my writing. Sure, I found time to write—I had to in order to keep my sanity—but there wasn’t time to devote to finding publishers to buy my manuscripts.

Fast forward to last year, when I decided to adjust my priorities and extract myself from everything that was stressing me out and making me miserable, writing was the one thing that made me happy, so I kept at it (well, that and my family, but they’re the constant anyway) and found that I had a number of manuscripts that were ready to go. So I queried publishers and found them a home.

A few weeks ago, Addicted to Love was released out into the world (if you've already read it, I'd really appreciate it if you could post a review on the vendor's website) and in a couple of more weeks, another book I wrote will be released. In the Moment is unrelated to Addicted to Love, but is coming out September 1. I’ve been so busy promoting Addicted to Love that I haven’t had much of a chance to talk about In the Moment, so here goes.

First of all, it was inspired by a house. A Victorian mansion, to be exact. Several years ago, the girls and I toured an open house of this beautiful mansion and we all fell in love with it. Since we didn’t have a few spare million dollars lying around, all we could do was walk through it and drool, but I decided it would make the perfect setting for a book.

And it did.

Since then, I’ve stalked it on realtor.com and ogled the pictures of the different rooms, but I also wrote and edited the story. And on September 1, it will come to life. When I worked with my publisher on the cover, I had very specific ideas in my head of what I wanted that cover to look like. Unfortunately, having specific ideas for a cover is never a good idea unless I’m the cover designer, which I’m not. But my publisher’s art department are miracle workers, and while it’s not exactly the picture in my head, it’s so close I’m kind of in awe.

For the next few weeks, I’ll be promoting this one, as well as continuing to promote the other, so I hope you’ll put up with me and maybe even pass along and share the info I provide so other people can read my books.
